Summary
A two day circular route that starts at Penistone and makes its way up to the remote and bleak Bleaklow plateau. It includes easy walking along the Trans Pennine Tail as well as some of the toughest walking in the Dark Peak across boggy and trackless moors to Bleaklow. Visits the tragic aircraft crash site of Defiant N3378. Includes a wildcamp at Near Bleaklow Stones with wonderful views across the Woodhead Valley.

Penistone To Near Bleaklow Stones
Starts with an easy stroll along the Trans Pennine Trail from Penistone. Admire the many wood sculptures along the way. Heads southwards up on to desolate and remote moors. A trackless yomp across boggy moorland up to the amazing sculptures of Bleaklow Stones. Heads down to Near Bleaklow Stones for a wild camp with tremendous views across the Woodhead Valley.
Near Bleaklow Stones To Penistone
Visits the aircraft wreckage of Defiant N3378 that crashed in 1941 at Near Bleaklow Stones. Descends along Near Black Clough into the Woodhead valley. Follows the Woodhead Tunnel (overground) towards Dunford Bridge with great views down the Woodhead Valley and across to Bleaklow. Follows the pretty Trans Pennine Trail to Penistone.
